Today was a day of odd compliments. The deli guy at Whole Foods told me that I had patience to spare and not enough people had that these days. Someone else said that I was pretty natty for an engineer. The lady at the blood center said that I had great veins and tried to get me to donate platelets. One of my coworkers looked at the scriptiing language I invented in the last two days and said that I was terrifying when I pulled stuff like that out of my ass.

I have awesome veins. Yay!

This morning as I was rocketing across four lanes of snarled traffic, I was reminded of the great truism of my life: I'm calmest when I'm moving fastest. If it ever seems like all I do is work, blow money on expensive trinkets, eat, and drive...well, that's because that's about what my life boils down to. However, the driving is the most important thing in that list. I was always bigger and stronger and faster and quicker than my peers (a life of living recklessly has diminished my speed, but I have guile now--or at least tell myself I do). And being that way frustrated me no end. Everything seemed so slow, and I had to wait for everything to catch up to me.

Then I discovered my bike, and I could put myself into situations where things happened almost at the speed I wanted them to. I was indifferent about cars until I could drive, and then I was hooked. I could finally make the world move at a speed whre my mind would quiet down, and I could just exist. Discovering the amazing, moving system that is traffic was just icing. I love that my greatest peace comes at triple-digit speeds.

Vacation time. Take care of yourselves and be safe.

Going fast is great...You forget about everything and get saturated with simple information and react with basic instinct. It's rare I find something that completely occupies my mind.

Mmm, boys with nice veins totally get me hot. Though truthfully, if you want to split hairs, I'm more of an artery girl myself.
