Today when I got home I began typing.... here is what I had to say.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As the sun's light crept up onto my eyelids through my dust stained blinds, my brain struggled to spark. Ignition. First in order of thoughts, today is my day off. No work today, but work still needs to be done. The kind of work that doesn't reward you with anger and pay stubs, the kind that rewards you with smiles on people's faces on the holidays.

With lines longer than a Robert Smith signing at a Hot Topic everywhere I visited, my open mind numbed itself into an open wallet. The carrier of my earnings emptied in a short series of shop stops. Not to mention the food court follies I had played on my digestive system. Silly me.

I do tasks and chores in exchange for money 40 hours a week. That money is taken in a fraction of the time I dragged myself through to earn it, inside of another dwelling filled with workers on phase one of the never ending cycle that is giving and taking. Will they visit my store on the different side of the wallet or purse any time soon? Most likely, only with shorter lines and even louder Christmas music being blasted overhead.

This madness, spending, decision making, and being queued in a line of consumerism. All parts in of Jesus' birthday, being celebrated in the wrong month, and familiarized by an obese man in red suede. This IS mad.

Temporary self-inflicted insanity is at times an arguably rewarding feat. Sometimes yes, most times no. The right choice of a gift can make the memory of lost time and money fade in a speedy manner. The terrible waste of paper to disguise these gifts becomes very fancy garbage in seconds, and there it is. The bright smile you were waiting for, slowly coming to life on a loved ones lower face. Small doses of bliss are better than no doses at all.

Just because you have the day off, doesn't mean there isn't work to be done.
