So I finally saw a doctor yesterday about signs of possible depression. I was told this is the absolute worst time of year to feel this way, seeing as how the days are short, and the nights are endless. I was given a 'script for Celexa, and was told it was supposed to make me sleep steadier, and balance me out. Basically, it's like Zoloft's retarded cousin, or Prozac's inbred uncle. I'm unsure how the pills will effect me, but shit, I only hope they improve and not worsen my current "funk" so to speak.

I always thought I was a stronger individual and that prescription drugs were for the weak, but I guess we are lead to believe they are indeed needed by EVERYONE. We are only customers to these pushers, not patients. "My son goofs off in class"... throw a Ritolin in his P.B.J. "My 73 year old husband is unable to remain erect while spelunking my dry bat cave"... give his old ass a Viagra.

Are we sick, or all just slowly becoming hypochondriacs? I'm not sure, but fuck it. It can only get better from here right? Right?

Citalopram is generally considered safe and well-tolerated in the therapeutic dose range of 20 to 60 mg/day. A doctor must always monitor a patient taking an SSRI like citalopram. Distinct from some other agents in its class, citalopram exhibits linear pharmacokinetics and minimal drug interaction potential, making it a better choice for the elderly or comorbid patients.[8] Citalopram should be taken with caution when using St John's wort.[9]

Citalopram can have a number of adverse effects. In clinical trials, over 10% of patients reported one or more of the following side effects: fatigue, drowsiness, dry mouth, increased sweating (hyperhidrosis), trembling, headache, dizziness, sleep disturbances, insomnia, cardiac arrhythmia, hallucinations, blood pressure changes, nausea and/or vomiting, diarrhea, heightened anorgasmia in females, impotence and ejaculatory problems in males. In rare cases (around over 1% of cases), some allergic reactions, convulsions, mood swings, anxiety and confusion have been reported. Also sedation may be present during treatment of citalopram. If this occurs it is advisable to take the dose at bedtime instead of in the morning.

corbet:
I'm not usually depressed but these long nights are definitely affecting me. It's really hard getting used to it being dark at 5 PM.
