Dinner at ye ole historic Tabard Inn
1739 N St NW
Who-ah. Good spread. Four courses and you picked one from selection of four. Course 1: Cream of artichoke soup with lobster and potatos. #2: Buckwheat creipes, with creme francois, caviar, smoked salmon and some type of fresh lettuce medley. Numero Tres: Kobe beef with mole sauce. Potatoe pancake with nice herbs and garlic. (MOLE RULES, for the unacquainted) The grand finale: Fried ice cream balls, with side cub of Mexican hot chocolate for dipping or pouring over. Yum-a-lum my friends. Chef Pedro Matamoros, can I get a witness.
Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Constitution Hall.
18th & D St. NW
First visit to the historic house made famous with opera and classical. Now throwing hip hop, soul and r&b shows to pay the bills. God bless America. DAR, before its kinder gentler reincarnation, used to be open only to folks who could trace lineage to a combatant in the American Revolution. Did a lot of political lobbying for causes from America's old families and historically denied membership to those who weren't blueblooded. There were three acts. I was super stoked for Al Green the headliner. Phil Perry opened and kicked ass. Had the crowd dancing. Stephanie Mills also kicked ass. My wife was hooting and hollering. Al Green left us feeling let down. He hardly sang, doing crowd sing along, backupsingers standing in. He spend most of the time handing our roses to the crowd, talking about jesus, playing with a ribbon he found and flicking his sweat into the audience. The crowd was dumbfounded. It was church for a hefty entry fee. Many like us left early and random people were commenting to us how much it sucked. If you like his old stuff, buy a cd and don't throw down big dollars on a concert.
