Dear god can the road be hard...
Detroit for 3 days with the boss, to much food, booze and work and not anywhere near enough sleep and then I return to a mess at the shop. To be honest I never would have believed that Detroit would have one of the best oyster bars ever downtown!
New guy has gone off the deep end, his GF left him because she felt he was an alky. Shortly after he stops showing up on-time/at all and just sucks in general performance wise. Does nothing but moan about the GF, this is how we knew what was up; also upset because she has accused him of stalking.
While out of town he did a no show, when I called he said he would be in in half an hour. We had a 'heart to heart' about his need to get his shit together if he wanted to continue to be employed... He then never came to work. After THREE full days and lots of calls nothing; all his tools are still here and zero contact.
A call to his other employer revealed he had been canned there for a pair of no-call no-shows!
My guesses are in jail or dead.
I am starting to doubt my ability as a leader...
Worst part to me was he was a good guy and seemed, in the start to be pretty good and reliable; he worked the whole winter for a friend and was highly recommended but I just cannot deal with another anchor around my neck.

oh, and best part about the time i'm leaving my other job? this weekend is the employee sale where i got an item at cost. huzzah for steel toed boots at cost.
