This is a glorious turn of events. There's a big exhibit at the Museum of Science & Industry about the history and technology of video games. Those wonderful, wonderful people at Exelon (I'll be a lot more enthusiastic about paying my electric bill next month) are the headline sponsors for it and it has no fewer than a hundred games to be played.
Now this is the upside of being unemployed. I've got all the time in the world to hop on the CTA and spend all day on Our Fair City's south lakeshore playing video games in the high-minded environment of a museum. The only downside: they have this kick-ass captured WWII U-Boat on display. I went through it once like fifteen years ago and since I started reading this book about Nazi secret agents in America ('Saboteurs' by Michael Dobbs) I wanted to see it again. But it's still being renovated so I can't. Bummer, but what're ya gonna do?
I first got word about it from some blurb in the Chicago 'Backwards-R' Reader and I didn't know how long it was going to run so I started stuffing new batteries in my digital camera, expecting to go on Sunday before it closed. Then I checked the website msichicago.com/gameon and it looked pretty comprehensive so I figured I could wait for a few days. Expect photos to follow....
