Opening day is my favorite day of the year.
My Reds lost, which sucks. But the Cubs put a whoopin' on the Mets and that was good to see. Maybe Dusty can pull the troops together and actually get them to play somewhat up to their potential. The Braves got fucking spanked by the Expos, few things are better than seeing the Braves get trounced. Damn fucking Yankees won though, oh how I hate them.
I get my futon tonight. The guy is bringing it over to my house out of sheer kindness. I can get rid of my 30 year old uncomfortable couch!!!!!!

I had a blast ... I saw four games, all Phillies.
03/25 - Phils get shut out by the Yanks in Tampa.
03/26 - Phils beat the Jays in Clearwater.
03/27 - Phils get shut out (and no-hit) by the Rays in Clearwater.
03/28 - Phils get shut out in Clearwater.
That last game was the final MLB game in Jack Russell Memorial Stadium. The Phillies have played there since 1955, and have been in Clearwater since 1947 ... longest (or maybe second) affiliation in the league.
Following the game, the Tiki Bar contained within the park was flooded with people. An hour or so later, all that remained were a handful of hardcore fans, and a good number of hardcore baseball people ... players, broadcasters, executives, coaches, local sports personalities ... it was pretty sweet.
Free beer (at that point they had given up) and access to the people closest to the game? You've got to be kidding me!
At one point, I sarcastically mention my run of games (4 games/3 shutouts) and they jumped all over me. Larry Andersen (former relief pitcher and current broadcaster), Ruben Amaro, Jr. (Asst. GM), Greg Gross (hitting coach), Todd Pratt (backup catcher), and Scott Graham (broadcaster) all came to the consensus that I shouldn't go to Friday's home opener.
Andersen was particularly amusing. He called me an asshole no less than three times - I called him a washed up has-been and continuously brought up and laughed at the fact that he was once traded for Jeff Bagwell.
Good times. Tons of stories.
