Ok....a full day....here's a synopsis:
Last night some people kept me up entirely too long. Don't get me wrong, we had fun....a nice dinner out and then watched Donnie Darko, which of course means I get to watch Jena Malone for an hour and a half, and really, where's the bad in that.
I woke up and met up with two of my old bosses for lunch. I had me a nice tasty burger and an insanely good piece'o'pie.
Then I came home and filled out my bracket for the NCAA tournament. I'm in two Yahoo leagues, a sandbox league, a pool at my ex-bosses' work and a pool with the kids next door....I'm using the same pics for all of them though, so not that much effort really.
I drove down and met madwill at the bookstore. I got a copy of the Hobbit, ever since seeing the final LotR movie I have been meaning to reread the books. I haven't read them since I was 15 or so. And I happen to think it is just wrong to read the trilogy without starting with the Hobbit. So, I'll start that tomorrow probably. I also got a book by Kilgore Trout called Venus on a Half-shell....it's just got to be good. It's pulp sci-fi by Vonnegut's alter-ego!
Then madwill and I headed up to Grand Rapids. We got a tad lost because the mapquest directions that I printed out didn't take into account that there was some construction last year and one of the exits no longer exists. But, eventually we found the place. We wanted food before the show, so we walked over to a place nearby. It was an Irish Pub and it turned out to be pretty damn fucking good. I had one of the best corned beef sandwiches I have ever had.
Then it was over to the venue for some Liz Phair! We got there as the first band was playing their last song....I'm really ok with only hearing five minutes of them. The second band was awful and yet highly entertaining. I'm sure madwill will fill you in on who the members "really" were....but the lead singer was giving a clinic on textbook rockstar facial expressions and he was so stoned out of his mind that you could barely keep up with his between song ramblings.
Then Liz came out. She is so incredibly beautiful. I think there is only one woman that I have seen in person who I would say is more beautiful. She lead off with Flower, I was so hoping she would play that song, I really didn't expect her to lead off with it. She played mostly old songs at the start of the show and then played some newer ones as her set progressed. I was really happy. I was worried that she would play mostly new songs and not play many of the older ones. But, I gotta say, she had a pretty good set list. Most of the songs I love off of her older albums were heard tonight.
Now it is time for me to sleeeeeeeeeep.....I made some cookies, but they are not for now, they are for breakfast. You know, some people think chocolate cake and grapefruit juice is a healthy breakfast....me, I'm all about coffee, cookies and cigarettes.....
