I watched Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV today.....such a great movie. Was it as good as the first? Of course not, but still very good and much, much, much better than the 2nd and 3rd.

My friend came over and we watched The Mexican. I'd never seen it before, actually a damn good movie.

I overslept this morning. I missed the lab for my computer class. I think we had a quiz/test today, so I am hoping I can make it up. I had my midterm for my film class at 2 and I woke up at 1:45ish, I just barely made it to class on time. I took the midterm and I think it went well. The last twenty questions were true and false....I think every answer was false. I was pretty damn sure about 15 or so of them and the other five I was leaning false. It's odd to have them all be false though, so I am a little unsure.

I read some more Bergson tonight.....I love Bergson so much.

Anyway.....I'm bored and I should go to bed much earlier tonight. Though, last night I intended to be in bed by about 11:30, but that didn't quite work. My Mom called around midnight and we talked until almost two....it's odd, my mom and I are not very close and yet I seem to be the one she talks to when the rest of the family is pissing her off.

Think of all the movies and books that have a scene where the men is forcing himself on the woman quite clearly, but she decides that she likes it and gives in. Sure, that makes the "scene" consensual, but it gives people the idea that women WANT men to push themselves on them, that it's okay to do so. Take "Gone With the Wind" as a classic example, Rhett pushes Scarlett around and even slaps her, and she is forced to give in to his manly desires. Take the rape scene in "Kids" vs. the one in "Boys Don't Cry". In Kids one wouldn't be sure whether or not the sex was consensual or not, if the scene was taken out of context..I don't think rape should be portrayed in such a way that it will turn the audience on. In Boys Don't Cry the sex is clearly not consensual and the horror of the act is clear.

And then think about the men who are taught that if you take a woman out on a date, and she goes home with you, she can't stop in the middle of sexual activity. If she does she's a cocktease and it's okay to try and push her to go farther. If she accuses you of rape later your defense will argue that she can't possibly have been raped because she was willingly at your house and willingly making out with you.

Which brings me to court cases. Sure, the accused is innocent until proven guilty. That does not make the accuser guilty. A woman's sexual experience has NOTHING to do with her being raped and should never be brought up in a rape case. It doesn't matter if a woman has slept with 150 men. It doesn't matter if she was voluntarily naked in front of the accused. Why should that matter at all? Why do you think it should make a difference?

Until very recently men were allowed to rape their wives. Many laws still say that unless a couple is seperated for a long enough period of time, a woman cannot be raped by her husband. How does that not imply that women are there as men's sexual property?

I don't think one thing in particular teaches some men that rape is okay. Or maybe rather that rape is not rape, that the only "real" rape is violent rape done by a stranger. I think it's the media, the parents, the general society around them.

As far as colleges go...if a student rapes another student, I believe it is the colleges responsibility to not allow the rapist back on campus, EVER. Putting a rapist on academic probation is ridiculous, it is basically saying that the rape was not a big deal, "boys will be boys". Entire schools have at times stood behind the RAPIST, actually arguing "boys will be boys"...i'll have to find the title again but there is a book about a group of high school football players who raped a mentally disabled girl...the school stood behind them because they didn't want to lose their star player. This happens at many schools. It happened at mine.
