Fully actualizing my dorky love for the humanities, I had this idea for a paper I would like to write yesterday. I was thinking about common motifs in revenge stories. I'm sure this ground has been covered somewhere by someone in some way before, but I remember thinking about how cool it was that across mediums and genres, the stories share the same similiarities. I thought about The Count of Monte Cristo, Kill Bill, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, The Crow, and even Batman have this thing going on with death and rebirth as an avatar of justice or retribution. I started to really feel compelled by the idea that humans need retribution so much that not even death is an obstacle to it. In fact, most of these stories suggest that death is the doorway to becoming an avenging avatar. Sometimes the death is what creates the need, but in all cases the characters had to die in some way as who they were in order to be reborn as someone else.
