I think, in our society, it is easy to forget where you are. You can easily become detached from yourself and live your life strictly according to what is socially "programmed"; in other words, what people who do not know you expect of you. This is always a pre-conceived idea, which has absolutely no correlation with what truly defines who a person is, or wants to be. Everything is defined by margins; this is true of life. Every culture has it's own margins, some radically different from others. Some people fit well into the confines of their society, others spill over in a waterfall of unmet hopes and unrealized goals. Others still, try to mould the margins to fit what thry want for themselves, or attempt to find a society that more closely fits what they feel they belong to.
Everyone wants something they do not have and has something they do not want. This is part of what balances the world. Learning to live with what you have is one of the hardest lessons you cannot teach. It is always learned through experience, and experiences are randomly generated by life's endless sum of variables. There is no one on this planet who can truly understand another person's definition of life. Every experience, every aspect of every detail of every facet of the world is percieved differently by every eye that sees it, or ear that hears it, or nose that smells it, yet everyone expects to see and hear and smell what they believe should exist, when really all that exists is a chaotic jumble of randomness, simplified only by perception.
This is why people do not like to be wrong. Your perception of the world is all you know, and to have that taken away serves to expose your mind to the infinite combinations of events in the world, and it is difficult to see anything clearly again.
It is possible to live your life, and never see anything around you. Only by learning to live with your born limitations and the limitations of those around you and conceding to live inside the boundaries of the physical, mental, and social worlds that exist inside and around everyone can you really understand what life is and how the world works.
