This is an older post from another one of my blogs. I just stumbled upon it and thought I would share with the few people who may read this. Things have changed for the better since this point.

The greatest gift I have ever physically received was given to me by my ex girlfriend for my 24th birthday. It was an Ipod nano. Now not only was that exactly what I wanted but she went above and beyond and asked people what bands I liked (we had just started dating so she was pretty unfamiliar with the specifics of my musical taste) and she filled it with music that I love, so when I opened it, it was ready to go. There was more great stuff that she gave me but for now I am going to focus on this particular item.

From that day on that Ipod never left my side. If you saw me, then chances are there were headphones sticking out of my shirt collar, and if there were not then it was surely in my left pant pocket. I would even take it with me to bars and listen to it when the music they were playing was not of interest to me. I find it odd how so many little things happen in life that people disregard and let pass by as though they are insignificant, but I like to think that I can spot synchronicity when it strikes me in the face.

Even though she was no longer my girlfriend we were in contact with each other quite often and still kept a very good rapport after a short period of severe animosity coming from my end. To put it simply we were back to being friends. However I could feel our relationship starting to decay. Sure we had our ups and downs like any relationship but I felt a certain imminent decay that was hovering around like the proverbial voracious vulture. Precisely at this point in time I noticed that my beloved Ipod was starting to have some major malfunctions. I was upset by both situations because to me I was losing two friends..... both very special to me. This situation persisted for several days until finally simultaneously, both relationships ended.

Losing friends in any manner of speaking is difficult. So how did I cope? Well luckily for me one of my relationships could be easily replaced with a credit card and 5 minutes usage of the Internet. One problem down. Unfortunately there is no actual friend store. I even googled it but it just came up with a bunch of bullshit. Doesn't matter though. There is no way I could afford anything from the friend store even if there was one.

What may seem like a small, everyday situation from the outside to most can potentially be the major turning point in some one's life. Upon the arrival of my new and upgraded Ipod pal changes began to occur. Pretty big ones too. Basically my only real friend in this entire country moved away and is soon joining the army.... this gave me the option to be more social. I took it. After over a year of bureaucracy I finally have official stamped documents that will allow me to go to school in the spring..... I am preparing by going back to ulpan (Hebrew school) to brush up on my language skills because I will be attending a four year program that is entirely in Hebrew.

I guess the point that I am trying to make is that sometimes you need a little kick in the ass to get back on your feet. It can come in many forms but I find that nothing is more effective for me than the perfect timing of distantly linked events with personal meaning.

Much Love,
