treasured anectodes from the evening, most of which was comprised of the illustrious dj kemal's set:

these anectodes all involve 3 tall brothers:

1) this one way-thin tall brother, w/a grey sweater and jeans on, straight \-up stared at kemal's turntable for about 45 minutes of his set. closer to the 2nd hour, he began to dance his ASS off, just drinking in the beats.

2) brother two, tall, chocolatey, no shirt on and denim overalls broke into the funkiest-ass micromovements in different parts of the club all night long, up until i left (2:30 ish). he danced like that with the floor free, and as the floor filled up, he danced with the same style and grace in a space not much wider than his own body length. amazing. (he must have been one of those "dancers from videos" i'd been informed attended this get-together.)

3) sweet cat, tall, thin, wore one of 'dem beret-like cordouroy dealies. and glasses. yet another graceful funky guy. towards the end of our stay there, he walked up to steve and myself and said to steve, "homegirl straight up wanted to battle me!!!" he then made these indignant movements, telling the story (music pumping, and my ear situation, i was glad he was very expressive) of how some chick wanted to battle him like it was american idol or some shit...rather than a house-love situation. he was all, "okay, i WILL READ YOU!" but we don't play like that...and on and on. and he demonstrated how he did, indeed, but her to shame with grace and all. it was at once hilarious and poignant.

I know almost nothing about the House scene and your journal just reminded me of that.
