to hurt me
you are sacrificing
two lambs

bloodsport
for no purpose
and you break open the soft wooly creature
just for the sake of breaking it

so that you might hear the snap of the limbs

you're working hard to smash my innocence and trust
with your words
and your false impressions
your sense of the absurd and
your need to make another hurt
so all eyes aren't on you
(not one life sacrificed but two)

you are sacrificing two lambs
when you strive to trip me so i fall
so's you can point
and gather up another cattle call
unwittingly you're next, you're soon to be
trampled
left defenseless
your belly exposed

least you can do is
make this thing a pure death throe
say things like you mean them
provide proofs, reasons, weights and measures
quantify your hatred
make the whole damned effort worth something
so that those you leave behind, in the wake
of our lives remembered
can gather together some
sense

so that they might make lamb's wool
and keep each other warm
so that they might find better ways
and roadmaps
carve beautiful trails and sheperd one
another, close together
through the morass
and into smooth, unusual,

peaceful
