Lenny and Lisa: On Soulmates, and New Years.
Love is what the whole world was put here for us to do love God, love each other and enjoy, enthused Lenny Kravitz - December 2001.
Mkay--the girl (Lisa Bonet) inspired "Let Love Rule." She was a big star before he was. They loved each other up. Worked on projects together. Built a garden. He was happy to be "Mr. Bonet," as they called him. They wrote songs together. They shared a similar, atypical heritage, interest, spirituality, aesthetics...it was fated when they met. They told everyone they were brother and sister, first, and then the rest obviated itself--they are both exquisite and gorgeous. Talented, magical, and charismatic. And you gon' tell me Lenny still got bored and strayed away from a girl so [fill in the blank!]?
"Bored" and "strayed," mind you, are euphemisms. Nobody's an angel. Nobody's perfect. But sometimes I think, "if I could have just done different," or "been different," or "looked different..." Ain't dat simple.
The infamous Howard Stern has been quoted as saying, "no matter how hot that woman is, she's still somebody's boring-ass wife." (paraphrase) Oy. Can you imagine? Surely, things are not that bleak. Surely there's a hopeful romantic out there, or two who'll wash out the lemonsour with the cherrysweet. Goodness.
Damn you VH1! Never play this Lenny Kravitz special again! (yes, this is my 3rd time watching it).
wait...did i have a point.....
In the documentary, Lenny very tactfully hinted at his father's roving eye (my conjecture, his tactful insinuation). In the interim, Lenny's mom passed on
and he and his father patched up some things. And after some 10-odd years, he and Lisa came to a clearing in the rough.
I heard Lenny is engaged and wants to find his quote "soulmate" unquote, and have more children.
We have 'reason people,' 'season people,' and 'lifetime people.' Lenny and Lisa, since they share a child, are little bits and pieces of both. They reconnected via Cree Summer, when Lenny was producing her album--started talking again, and the like (ironically, I sh---you not, this week, I just ORDERED Cree's album after an ex bandmate recommended to me, going on...4 or 5 years ago.).
She told him "we have to cut your locks NOW." "There's a lot of energy in your locks," Lenny had said. I guess he had been growing them round about 10 years. So Lisa and Lenny cut, and kept cutting away, until they were all gone. Lenny mentioned he felt so much lighter. Felt breath. New life. Sounds GOOD to me...
The truth is, everyone who has ever been in my life, is a lifetime person for me--once I attach to you, that's pretty much it. Even if you subsequently turn around and trample me underfoot. It's rare for that to happen these days, I'm just being poetic.
That's how it is. We're all practicing the best modes of love, and evolution.
I tell ya--for the last few weeks I have been so queasy. Hard to hold down food and whatnot. I'm cutting certain things out of my diet, and that's part of it--also, I think some old things in my life that I can no longer "digest" are making themselves plain in this symbolic way. "THAT'S ALL--can't let anymore in--sorry." That's the deal. I suppose Jan 1 2003 is a newfound line of demarkation for me.
We're all each others' soulmates, if you think about it. How magical it is for our spirits to animate these fragile bodies. Everyone I interact with is a lifetime person, sure---but sometimes I need to let go and come to terms with the temporality of this life thing we've got going on here. Cast my love out on the waters--if it comes back to me shaped and moving and breathing like you, fantastic. If you evaporate and come back to me shaped like someone else, so be it.
SO BE IT.

Where do I roam. Alibi, Xanth (once in a great while), Whistle Stop, Lancers, the second wind, live wire, shooters (I've never gone to sabbat though), and pretty any other dive in the area. Once in a great while I will head out to hedonism... and shake my flat ass...
