My friend Robin came over last night and we had a nice long talk about growing up, getting older, and "maturing", and it got me to thinking about some things. So, I present to you...
Things I know at 30, that I didn't know at 20
* Blood is NOT always thicker than water. In fact, its not even thicker than bullshit
* The "Complete" Golden Rule: Always treat others how you would like to be treated. But there is no point in treating them at all if they don't treat you well to begin with
* MaryJane is my friend
* [Raw] Cucumbers are not (they make my tummy hurt
)
* Nobody really cares how fashionable you are... except of course, you
* I actually really like me. Like, a whole bunch
* I will always be a tomboy. Nothing is going to change that
* I'm way smarter than I give myself credit for
* You cannot help someone who doesn't want your help
* I'm kinda shy, and socially awkward. And I'm okay with that.
* I'll fight tooth and nail to protect my little sister. (Okay, this was true at 20 too, but I'm older, she's older, and its even truer now)
* Love sometimes means sacrifice. Just make sure you're not sacrificing yourself.
* I am completely comfortable with my own sexuality
* My political and spiritual views are pretty well defined as well
* I have no desire to "keep up with the Jones'"
* No one really tells you the truth about marriage and/or home ownership
* Sex is sometimes just sex
* I make a mean vegetarian chili
* I'm more honest than I should be sometimes, but I still believe honesty is the best policy
* I have no desire for babies
* I will never truly grow "roots"
* I have no fear of aging or death
* Sometimes closure isn't a reality, but a lot of the time forgiveness helps a whole bunch
* I appreciate the people who have hurt me in the past because they have made me what I am today
This entry may seem a little self absorbed, but I look at it as an affirmation. Our lives are only a blip on the map of time, and only change and knowledge are as infinite as the rest of the universe. Only by learning from adversity and adapting to change can we truly grow and without growth our lives have little meaning. I have faith. Maybe not in the "traditional" sense, but I guess you could say that I have faith in the process.
All my love,
xo

***Edit: Oh, and here was my horoscope from today...
When faced with ten entrees on the menu, it may be hard for you to choose just one. Feel free to order two or more, dear Libra. Don't let indecisiveness slow you down. At the same time, don't view it as something negative. The key for today is going with the flow. Expand your dreams as far and wide as you wish. Have fun as long as you are willing to take full responsibility for your actions.
Hahaha... that's funny! So who wants to be my side dish?

(sigh) anxiety is too easy. I've relied on medication for too long as a coping mechanism. I need to learn how to actually deal with feeling.
