I think I might be having an Antiques Roadshow moment.
(squee!)
So, I was walking down the main strip in town and noticed that one of of many antique stores was having a last day - closing sale. I do love me some kitschy old stuff, so decided to check it out. If I had had more money, I probably could have gone nuts... the prices were dirt cheap and they had a lot of cute stuff. The one thing that really caught my eye, was this giant [painted] green candlabra that was sitting in front of the $5 table.
me: "Is this really $5?"
lady #1: "No, it's $40, but it's 50% off, so its only $20. Hey wait... what do you think?
lady #2: "Sure. Why not."
SOLD. I give the nice lady my money, exchange some pleasantries, and took my new purchase home. Long story, short, I get home, start cleaning it up, and discover a marking on the bottom. After a little research, it turns out my $5 candlestick might actually be made of silver and was made c. 1850-1888. No idea yet as to what it might be worth, but I'll certainly be making some calls come Monday. Wouldn't that be effin sweet?
