Florida is a nice sunny place to vacation. So silly me I go home to Chicago for vacation. But I wanted to see snow. Mission accomplished.

I had a horrible time with projects in school. I eked out a certificate program in Internet development at an online school and am not thrilled about trying to go for an Associates or Bachelor's.

I ended up getting my girl a teddy bear like from Build-a-bear, but from a different store. She loves it d sleeps with it every night. Can't really ask for more than that, so I'm pretty pleased.

My graphic design comes from a slightly different aspect. I wasn't really into art when I was younger. I never had the knack for taking a mental image and making it come out on paper. But after college I started working as a printer and had to troubleshoot crappy files that bad designers had sent us, so I ended up learning photoshop, pagemaker and illustrator. So now I have the freedom to work on something, and if it doesn't look right I can tweak it and make it look better. I'll never be an all star or anything like that, I still don't feel like I'm inspired, but the people I end up doing work for tend to come back, so that's something.

Well you made it through christmas. Fortunately I found someone to make mine quite lovely. Tell me about your art geekiness, I geek in graphic design. Yes, geek is now a verb.

Wicked...geek can definitely be a verb. I'm in a year long art program. It's like a stepping stone course really for say if you wanted to go into graphic design and you wanted to build a portfolio, you get to dabble in everything for a year. I'm kicking around deciding what I want to do because I was in Media Studies and Photography at a university/college for 2 1/2 years, but it was new and it didn't work out well. I didn't like the way the program was headed, they're basically going to run the thing into the ground and phase it out now because it's such a failure, so it was good I left when I did. Although I do have a D70 now, and excellent light meter and some knowledge of photography now so it wasn't totally wasted. I ended up in this art program as a fluke really because I needed to be in school and have proof of enrollment to be able to return to my really great summer job, the income off which I live off of during the year. It's sweet. So ya. But it's actually turning out to be really fun and I'm learning some new things....

Ya I have had bad experiences with Christmases and New Years for the last decade and they tend to just make me more depressed now. Plus I had to get my wisdom teeth pulled and it didn't go so well, I was really sick. But we're through that now and so I'm happy and hopefully the New Year is good, although there's still now snow here...

I'm glad things are working out better for you now. How did your gift go down and what was it in the end?
