Enjoyed watching the first part of Tess of the d'Urbervilles, which was aired on PBS this past Sunday as part of their Masterpiece Classic series.

However host Laura Linney's pre-program lecture, which discussed the battle author Thomas Hardy faced to get his sympathetic tale of a fallen woman published without censorship, seemed very ironic when (Quantum of Solace) actress Gemma Arterton's rather lovely nipples were subsequently pixelated out. To make matters worse, her breasts weren't censored during scenes of lovemaking as you might expect, but during a scene which showed Tess breast-feeding her child.

Obviously feeding babies is thoroughly indecent, and we should all stop doing it immediately.

Nevertheless, it's well worth catching. Part 1 of Tess is repeated again on Saturday, before Part 2, which is broadcast on Sunday.

You can hardly blame PBS for the fact they're not allowed to practice what they preach indeed me thinks the irony may have been intentional I'd certainly like to think it was!

I've seen that I think. And I definitely enjoyed the novel, as thoroughly depressing as it can be.
