Well lets see here... This is me venting and ranting and hopefully someone will read and maybe help me with this dilemma.

My Social life has gone to shit...

I'm 21 about to become 22 in December and feel like I'm an old man...

Where has my youth gone!?

My Social Life has taken a downward spiral and about 10 feet off the ground for a crash landing...

I currently work Wednesday night through Saturday night...

I know I'm a rookie and this job is a stepping stone to where I want to be later in life and where I work and do not expect to get my choice of days off...

But damnit I can't even take a day off!!!

I can't go out and enjoy a night off when I want and my job even gives me paid days off!!!

If I don't use em I lose em sort of thing... Well I'm losing them...

I don't remember the last time I got a series of days off to go have some fun just for a night or two...

I couldn't even take a day off for my 21'st birthday... I didn't even have a party.

Some of my friends have shunned me for what kind of career path I have chosen for myself to hopefully one day make a difference in the community.

I have had to part ways with some friends as well because what they do in life. I don't want to change people because my views and morals are different and what they do is good for them but not necessarily good for me... So I think I do whats best for both sides...

Most of the people I still have contact with invite me to a shit load of stuff to do but I always have to tell them I have to leave by 9:15pm to be at work by 10:00pm or no I can't tonight because of work...

I tell them lets hang out on one of my days off... Well that would be cool except nothing is open on my days off to do anything or people have school...

I thank everyone who still has contact with me...

And F.F.S. if anything goes on sunday, monday, or tuesday let me the Phack know!

doll_:
i think that your choice to become a sanitation technician is an honorable and respectable one. there will always be a need for truly dedicated and honest garbage men that wont take advantage of the system that they are given the responsibility to uphold. having enough foresight to make a career choice that will suck in the beginning but holds meaning and purpose in the future, displays quite allot about your character and strength of being. just think of all of the experiences that you will have and all that you will learn about human nature (probably mosly not so great, but- depends on how you look at things)
integrity and commitment are qualities that you obviously possess, and that is amazing to find (not to generalize) in a man of your age. as far as this old man river shit, please... stop that blather, right quick. i just turned 29 last month homie... talk about scary shit... talk about life taking over and repetition. I wake up most mornings to a heavy dose of my inner voice screaming at me "is THIS all there is??!!!!" join the club brother, and do your best to make every day worth it, inside. who cares what your "friends" think... you are the one who has to look at that face in the mirror every day. (lucky you) take some time to thank yourself for making great decisions for your future not just thinking about NOW in this immediate gratification world that we live in.
When you are sitting back at the big sanitation technician desk of amazing wonderment in a few years counting yer duckets, feeling fulfilled in your heart because you have worked so hard and sacrificed so much to get where you are- truly making a difference, then go out and have a stiff one... knowing that without sacrifice, you would never be able to appreciate or see the true significance of what you have gained...by nothing else, but your own hard work and dedication.. you will have plenty of time to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

patience, grasshoppa. patience.
