Fair Trade

You exchanged life
For my knife
Not since the Indians and the beads
Has there been less of a deal

I see you face each day while I shave
Feeling the scar you left
Across my right cheek
Hidden by the years and weight

You fought with all your might
Screaming and kicking
Biting while crying
Hoping it was a play fight

I buried my blade
In the middle of your chest
So deeply, it had to stay
And lay with you in your final resting place

In the distance of the years
Nearly 5000 days of holding back the tears
Still you haunt, each night
Yet, I believe it was a Fair Trade

The stars shine

I wait in the amphitheater

Leaving me with the knowledge

As it is each day
