Plots and story can be elusive and escape the would be storyteller at the most inopportune moments. Fortunately, there are several, scientific and serious minded methods to regain the narrative footing one of which is to turn up the music, play air guitar, and sing the Shakespeare quote one headed the current chapter with, until one finds the story once again.
