About six weeks ago, I gave my two weeks notice at my old job. This had not been planned. I had worked at that grocery store for more years than I care to admit. I didn't like it, and I'm pretty sure it messed me up a bit mentally. Even so, I was complacent. "Something better will come along," I would tell myself while half-heartedly looking at want ads and sending sample work to editors.

Six weeks ago, bad things happened. The new girl in charge of the delivery service had screwed things up. She was disorganized and sloppy. However, because she was unable to drive, and I had to do the deliveries, it was easier for her to blame any mistakes made on me. So I had a meeting with my so called "superiors" in which these things were addressed. I defended myself. Things got heated. Eventually, I got fed up. And I gave my two weeks.

It seemed a bit unfair that I was leaving, with nothing to fall back on, while this snake of a delivery girl was being treated like the golden child. But I didn't dwell on it. I left. I landed another job, a great job with nice people. I'm more optimistic than I have been in a long time (despite my many neurosis).

Come to find out the delivery girl got fired today for insubordination. I don't really hold grudges, so I'm not happy this happened. But I can't help but be amused. One rarely sees an actual example of karma in this world, but I'm starting to believe. Maybe what goes around really does come around.

Not sure what John Lennon was getting at though.
