So, we dropped over $200 on food, grill, fuel and drinks for a BBQ to invite a few close friends over and to show our appreciation to a small group for helping us get this place, to keep our relative jobs and to help us keep mobile these past couple of months. We spent days cleaning and preparing the house, finding the right food for everyone, rebuilding a grill found at a local thrift store (and me carrying said grill in 112 degree heat from the thrift store to the upstairs apartment since my girl was off at work with the car supporting our asses), and generally busted our rears.
Well, two great friends showed up... and... that was it.
It seems the person who this was all for, the person who is letting us borrow one of her cars, decided that since her fuck-buddy is in town, she'd spend it drinking and fucking all day with him, and topping it off by downing a bunch of pills and shit and getting too fucked up to go anywhere. So instead of texting or calling me... she calls my friend who did show up, and told her "deal".
I want to be VERY much in her face, but she is doing us a HUGE favour by lending us the car so we can get on our feet. At the same time, it's not her car, but her husband's car that pretty much throws cash at her to keep her even when she's off fucking some other guy. Can you truly be altruistic when it's not a sacrifice to you? Are you truly donating and sacrificing when the money is out of someone else's bank account?
And to make things even more of a pain, me and my girl are the *only* non-drug users in... well... the entire social circle I know! I don't hang out with addicts or dealers, but it seems casual drug use is "ok", and I'm out of line when it offends me. In this case, getting high to the point of non-function was more pressing than an event that I spent hundreds of bucks on to show a person how much we appreciate letting us borrow her car! It was to say publicly to as many people as possible (including people she was supposed to bring, but instead invited to do drugs with instead) that, while she complains on her FB that she's a hated person and doesn't know why, that she's a very good person by helping us get this new apartment and to keep the jobs that kept us in a home and not homeless (something that WOULD of happened if not for this use of her car the past few months)
And she blew us off.
I am so glad the couple that did show up came, and hung out. She is a great friend and her fiance is a good guy. We had good food and chatted the night away (Something that we haven't done in a while). She is always the better person because of events like this. My problem is that we depended on this, well, hand out so much and it has saved our asses so much that I'm kept from voicing my disappointment. We could've used the extra cash to put towards a new car for Delores. But, since our event was only 1/3 of what we expected... it seems a waste.
Even my Sister decided to work a Rodeo for free than to hang out for the weekend because she's become so anti-social over other stuff.
It just hurt. I worked so hard...

Well, it was supposed to be a small gathering anyways, but two of Delores 's friends had to cancel and the two who we were expecting to show were too stoned to show, so it was me, my girl and two others :| not much of a party. Still, it was good to hang out with my friend and her man since we don't get to hang out anymore but it still brought me down. I've never been one of the "cool kids" so anytime I have an event I'm afraid they'll always turn into, well, these kinds of events.
