Notes from the Other Side of the Reality Rainbow: My Schizophrenic Fashion Odyssey

So my day began with an irresistible urge to find a new pair of boots, cowboy boots to be exact; you see, I have a weird thing for cowboy boots and cowboy hats, in fact I have competed in hiphop freestyle competitions wearing such (even winning once or twice). So I spent the better part of the day hopping between the area's various western stores, where I generally do not fit in to begin with, often feeling like I made it out just escaping getting my ass kicked; today that feeling was more intense for, at the time, reasons unknown to me, so that combined with the fact I failed to find any boots that would satisfy me made the whole endeavor feel like an utter failure. As a result, I decided to visit my piercer to get a few new holes installed as a consolation prize; as I sat down for him to get to work (I was just getting a few new piercings in my ears) my piercer began to laugh hysterically (he's an old friend so there was never any insult perceived). When I looked at him quizzingly he calmly informed me that I would need to remove my cowboy hat for him to get to started; it was at this moment that my feeling of alienation and fear of bodily harm from earlier in the day finally made sense- I had been going into these western stores wearing a cowboy hat, cowboy boots, jeans, and a very loud tee shirt for an underground hiphop artist (black with pink and purple graphics to be exact). This was a wonderful "ah ha" moment and, as I recounted it to my piercer, we spent a sold half hour laughing uncontrollably, to the point that he was so late with his next appointment that I paid for their piercing, so, in the end, this redeemed the entire day, but it left me wondering- what the fuck is up with my fashion sense!?!
