I'm going to try and keep this as short as possible. But damn, I'm PISSED about this.
Christopher Chope is a Conservative MP here in the UK. He became infamous after his halting of a bill to make "Upskirting" a criminal offense.
On Friday, he shouted "OBJECT" when a bill was presented to protect children from FGM.
Parliamentary rules state that only one MP needs to object to block the bills progress.
FGM, or Female Genital Mutilation is the process of cutting, changing or removing some or all of the external female genitalia. It's most prevalent in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, but also within communities originally from these countries too.
Not only is it painful, but can cause long term issues with sex, becoming pregnant, childbirth and mental health. It's often performed by people with no medical training, and no anaesthetic or antiseptics are usually used.
People are so rightly furious about this, wanting Chope to be unseated.
A Tory MP Anna Soubry tweeted "If there’s any MP that needs deselecting/unseating then it must be #ChristopherChope!”
Not only has this man voted against FGM and Upskirting, but also against gay rights, same sex marriage, equality and human rights.
Be angry, cause an outrage and let's get some justice!
