The Joys of Homeownership!
Anyone who actually reads this should already know about me inheriting a house recently, so I won't rehash that.
Basically, my uncle is being a douche over what should happen with the house, and my other uncle, who was sort of neutral on the matter, is beginning to side with him. The best part of the story is, the house was actually willed to my Grandmother, and neither of them have any real say in what happens with it. My Mom wants me to have the place (to be clear, my Aunt died, the siblings are now two brothers and a sister, my mom.) and my grandma lives with her, plus I'm the favorite grandchild, which I know bugs the uncles, who also have kids. anyway, Uncle Douche is making everyone feel stupid, including Grandma, which is dumb because she has final say. Originally she was going to sell us the house for about half of what its worth, but because the uncles want her to do something else, out of spite, she's just going to rent us the house for $300 a month less than what our new mortgage payment would have been, which is fine with me, she'll let us paint and do whatever we want.
Now the fun begins, the drain in the bath tub has always been slow, but the day before yesterday water started coming out of the wall in the bathroom and the kitchen. Awesome! call Mom, she sends over Uncle Neutral, uncle neutral is cool about it, and starts knocking a hole in the wall to assess the situation, then we realize that there's an access panel hidden inside one of the kitchen cabinets, making new holes in the wall more pointless work. whatever. We get to the bath tub drain and find that the bottom end of the pipe is sitting in a pile of mud because the slab has been cut away here and that the bottom of the pipe is rusted out, awesome!
We called a plumber to come and clear the pipes while its all apart, but while sending the snake into the pipes, he says that the snake only goes so far, then hits mud, which means another break in the pipe, more awesome! He recommends that we remove the bath tub and the sink, then jackhammer into the slab and replace all the pipes FANFUCKINGTASTIC!
I paid him the $94 for not really doing anything, then proceeded to tear out all the living room carpet with breezey when she got home from work.
I'm still excited to have the place, but it's starting to be a hassle, I still haven't moved in most of my stuff due to replacing almost all the flooring, and the thing with the uncles is annoying, they just lost their sister, why would they want to alienate their only other sister and their mother? No one in our family is hurting for money right now, and the market sucks for selling the place right now anyway. Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Plumbing problems suck. But, at least you have a home to complain about.
