I'm done with snow. I'm sick of plowing and shoveling and snowblowing and salting and sanding. It's not that I don't enjoy having four seasons, but having to get up before dawn and plow is no fun.
You know what really gets me about snow? My girlfriend's Mom calls us from south of the Mason/Dixon line every time it snows to tell us that it is snowing here. She watches the weather channel to find out what it is doing here so she can tell us about it and ask exactly how much we got.
Why is it that snow is the only meteorological or geographical phenomenon that people get all gooey and nostalgic about? The in-laws are always going on about how great it must be to have snow and how they wish they could have it too. As far as I'm concerned, they can have it.
To my knowledge, nobody calls up relatives in California to lament that they don't have earthquakes where they live. Nobody pines over how beautiful tornados must be or wishes that swarms of locusts would descend on their town for the holidays.
The funny thing is, the town my girl's family lives in got 2 whole inches of snow before Xmas and it shut the entire area down for a week. The highways were littered with abandoned vehicles because nobody had any idea how to drive in the "blizzard" despite the fact that 75% of the folks there drive 4 wheel drive trucks.
So if you want our snow, you can come and take it. You can also take the $600-$800 monthly heating bills, the enormous strain on city/town budgets that snow removal brings and the inevitable traffic delays and accidents caused by people who really should know better.
Grumble grumble. I've been up since 4 dealing with snow and I'm going to take a nap now. Maybe I will be more pleasant later.
Thank you
