You know I rememeber a long time ago, when I first started getting reality checks about work, getting up at 5am to jump on a bus by 5:30 my mom said to me "don't worry, you'll get used to it' as she beamed bright full of energy as I left a grumpy young man. I worked in the service industry back then and let me tell ya sometiems I mis............who the hell am I kidding I don't miss that job for shit! Moreover I still hate getting up at 5am. That being said I will always, and I do mean always have respect for those in the service industry. My wife of 17 years is still in it, I look over when I am at a restaurant and see the young men and women slinging food and drink having fun until some shithead, who has clearly never worked in the business chew some kid (yes that is how I see it now) out cause he gave him the wrong coffee. If you have never worked in food it is a pretty simple scenario, work like a dog and get treated like shit, for peanuts.

I say all this for 2 reasons one to inform those who don't know about life in that business, the next tiem your get the wrong donut, do me a favour, give the kid a break. He/she has probably been chewed out and had food thrown at them or some similar incident more than once in that week and you being a shithead is not helping. Be nice and I assure you, you will get treateed like gold the next time you go in, I always remembered the nice people and the assholes.

The 2nd reason is to remind myself how good I have it. I make a good salary working in a great environment and I am damn lucky to have gotten where I am. So no matter how shitty my day is.........I could be slinging goop trying to make some unapreciative pompus asshole happy working for min wage (which is a whole other topic people I will get there).

So with that have a great day and thanks for reading the rant.......good lord someone find me some coffee!
