Hello friends,
I did some heavy thinking last night about possible methods to start a SG mix-trading group online, and I'm starting to get pretty excited about some of the possibilities I came up with. Let me outline what seems the most promising scenario, for you now.

The required tools:
1. An SG group devoted to mix trading, where we can post these things.

2. Everybody in the group must have the Shareaza 1.7 client. Why Shareaza? Because it implements a free, open-source, highly advanced filesharing protocol called Gnutella2 (see www.shareaza.com for details). More importantly, it allows for URLs to files on the network to be embedded in webpages. Including, at least theoretically, SG forum posts.

This would mean that people could post a link directly from the post (NOTE: If you don't have Shareaza installed, this link won't take you anywhere productive) probably with the song name. Make a list of the songs, clickable each. Or one link to a .zip file with the playlist file as well, and possibly album covers for those who are so artistically inclined. The benefit of this would be that once it started getting shared, more people could get it off the network from other people who've downloaded it, rather than just downloading it from a single person (who probably wants to log off once in a while). It also spreads the bandwidth costs to all the people who are involved in the trading group.

If you're friendly, want to give it a try for me... download Shareaza. It's not hooge. Nor particularly resource intensive. And its a hell of a filesharing program, too. Just about ready to start flying, it is. Then click here to download a test mix I've put up for the purpose. It's a zip file. Roughly 67 megs. About 14 songs, I think. Just one I threw together. Has a bunch of songs I'm thinking about putting into a real mix, so don't complain if I post another mix later that has some of the same songs. smile

I'll leave my computer connected to Shareaza for a couple days, just in case anybody's curious, or wants to help me test this.

Please make sure, if you download the client, that it is v1.7, as this implements the more efficient G2 network protocol.

i would say leave it open for all, unless and until someone causes you to think otherwise.
