So, I have a new rat in my lap. She was supposed to be snake food...
We've had her for about two weeks now, trying to keep her alive and in a cage long enough for us to get settled into the new house long enough for his snake Calypso to be hungry again. Last time we tried to feed her the rat, she didn't want it.
The rat, she's an escape artist. She has gotten out of, so far, two different tanks, a dog crate, and the apartment sized cage where my own rats currently reside. My guy, two days ago, saw her out of the most recent tank and put her in a bucket with a lid on it.
Yesterday, I opened the lid to check on her... She was covered in nastiness, curled up into a little fuzzy rat ball, shivering and making little squeaky sighs. *eep* frown
I took her out, and gave her a warm bath in the sink. She didn't put up the tiniest amount of protest, just sat there in my hand and let me wash her little face. She didn't complain when I took her out, and dried her off with a hand towel. I was sitting on the couch, next to my guy, looked up and said. "I'm a sucker." He said... "Yeah, you can keep her."
So, I have a new rat sleeping in my lap. It's a weird sort of timing, Beaker started showing a tumor like four days ago frown I'm sad. It's on her jaw, and really big. Imagine having something the size of a grapefruit growing in your jaw; that's how big her tumor is for her. I know rats are prone to cancer and tumors, it's a risk I take by having them as pets. Beaker was sort of old when I got her, maybe even almost a year old, and I've had her almost a year myself. So, she's kinda middle aged. I'm going to start her on antibiotics today, and pain killers, and if she doesn't get better... well, I'll deal with that when it comes.
Until then, I have to think of a name for the newbie. She is sound asleep, curled up in a fold of my shirt in my lap. It's so cute!! She's really young, probably only five or six months old, so she aughta be a nice pet. Sad that she is going to be a replacement, but it happens. I just have to get my other rats to like her... they're kinda vicious.
Anyways, I gotta go get ready for work. I still like my job. How weird is that?
So, anyways...

You adopted your snake's food......that pretty funny. I bet your snake doesn't like you that much right now.

Congrats on your new pet. You should call her Houdini, because she is an escape artist. I'm glad you decided to keep her, she had a will to live. smile
