finished cat's cradle on monday night. except for stanley kubrick in "dr. strangelove" i don't think anyone could have envisioned a funnier end of the world than vonnegut. tempted to start "breakfast of champions" next, but it doesn't seem fair to all the other great authors.

it's now less than a month until i ship to basic training. seems like the time is flying by. when i enlisted back this summer, it seemed like this date would never come. and now it's nearly time. the run started feeling pretty good, so i've increased it to about 4.5 miles. then it didn't feel so good, but after a couple more days it will be fine (i hope). it's not all the running i'm as worried about as the push ups.

and of course i would happen to get involved with someone right before i leave. who is more foolish? the fool or the one who follows the fool? it's a girl i've know for a long time and we just happened to get intimate over the new year's holiday. figured it would fizzle out since we live a few thousand miles apart, but we have stayed in touch via email and talking on the phone. i'll get to see her one last time the weekend before i leave. i guess it's better to really know someone than not, but....
