Today started badly. First of all there was a traffic jam on the M32 due to an accident, which I handled pretty well because I was on my way to work, not on the way back. Usually traffic jams have me gnashing my teeth and swearing.
Then as we got past the jam I saw a fox in the centre near the barrier. Seeing dead animals on the road upsets me but even worse, this fox was still alive and trying to get up, which it couldn't due to it's injuries. I only saw it for a second but I felt a piece of my heart splinter off and die in my chest. I had to hold back tears as I give another guy a lift to work and you can't show that kind of emotion in front of someone you hardly know.
I don't get how I can feel so strongly about something that most people don't give a fuck about. Why is it that I view animal life as being equally as important as human life and the majority of people don't? I know there are lots of people out there who feel the same way and I'm proud to know a few of them and have them as friends, but most people would not be upset by this. Some might feel a little bad but would have forgotten within minutes, others would think I was mental for even getting upset, but I have the same reaction as most people would to seeing a child hit by a car.
All this brought out my misanthropic side. I couldn't help thinking that if it was a person lying there, everyone would have stopped and someone would have called an ambulance but because it's an animal, no one gives a fuck if it lies there dying in agony because some stupid human being hit it with a car. I didn't even know who to call - the RSPCA? Are they really going to go out and help "roadkill"?
Individually there are many people I like but as a race I think we're a fucking blight on this planet. We go around being all superior and yet take little or no notice or care of anything around us, including other people. Loathsome.
Sorry about the rant but this really upset me. Most of the time I go about my day like most people and play the game but every now and then I'm reminded about how sick and insane our society is when you take a close look at it and how the majority of people don't even see it and even those that do have to ignore it in order to fit in.

lolliepop:
it does seem strange that people are so used to seeing and eating dead animals. Society is weird
