Woo, bit of catching up to do. My social life is usually a little... well, boring honestly, but this last week it's been pretty busy. (Hence the blog post at 20 to 4 am...)
Last night I went to a metal gig with a guy from work and a guy who used to work there. There were 3 bands on, all of whom were pretty good but not massively memorable. In fact it was only when my housemate asked me who I'd been to see when I got in tonight that I realised that I couldn't name any of the bands!
Anyway, it was good to get out and great to go to a metal gig - I haven't been to a metal gig/club in ages and I'd forgotten how at home I feel there. I got pretty near the front at one point, so my hearing was off for most of today - my normal tinnitus exaggerated by the false tinnitus from the gig. Also I had a slightly sore neck from headbanging to the music, something I haven't done in a while.
On the way back home I bumped into a friend that I haven't seen in a few months and we ended up sitting on the jetty in the harbour playing chess until 1:30am (he just happened to have a board on him...). I love it when random shit like that happens.
So tonight I was invited to a friend's birthday meal and drinks. The meal was at Nandos', (famous for chicken,) and between being veggie and wanting to go home and get a shower, I declined the meal but agreed to meet up for drinks afterwards.
We met at Mr Wolf's, which I love. It's a really cool little late night bar/club that usually has some funky DJ on and it gets quite packed and sweaty. When me and my ex first started hanging out we used to go there and it was the place we had our first kisses.
Tonight I was with a girl who I met before I met my ex, at a speed dating thing, (although she wasn't actually attending, her friend was running it and she showed up for support,) and who I was (am...) very attracted to. She decided that we should just be friends at the time, (if I had a pound for every time I got told that,) and see what happened. Then I met my ex. Ok, end of that story.
Anyway we stayed in touch and tonight was the first night I've seen her properly since I got with my ex and she looked great but there didn't seem to be anything except friendship in the air, even when I walked her home and stayed for a cup of tea. (No ulterior motive, I'm a gentleman...)
The bands tonight were really varied, from an acoustic guitarist who tapped out a complicated drum riff on the body of the guitar as he strummed, to a young guy who did beatbox and played either harmonica or recorder at the same time, which you had to experience to believe.
The best band of the night however, were a really eclectic bunch. There was an accordian, banjo, bass, drums and clarinet. They were called Fucknuckle and the Bastards, (I swear I'm not making that up...) and they were as mad as a box of spoons. Well, Fucknuckle (as she introduced herself,) was anyway. She dressed oddly, spoke in a strange accent that sounded like a cross between swedish and lunatic, danced like a loon and sang mostly through a megaphone. They did the most bizarrre cover version of Britney Spears' Toxic and generally outshone all the other acts of the night and were all out fucking brilliant. They handed out flyers for another gig there and I'm definitely fucking going. A friend of my friend was watching them and said, "Yeah but you wouldn't want to sleep with her would you?" and before I knew it, I'd replied, "Definitely! You'd know you were in for an interesting evening at worst and I'd be damn curious to see what she'd be like." She was also a not-unattractive girl, so I might sidle over after the next gig and see if the crazy lady Fucknuckle is single...
