Hola eh,
Since entering into the big leagues as an independent publishing tycoon and the onslaught of the first week of classes,
there's nothing I'd enjoy more than not writing a whole shitwack of letters here.
Well maybe I'd enjoy some Mi Goreng fried noodles more....
Since the recent introduction of the concept "it's not all about" me I'm seeing the perfect oppurtunity to post this entertaining interesting and vivid letter from our dear friend Pavel.
Pavel is a swingin' thirty-something from the Czech republic who I was fortunate enough to be roomates with (in ghetto employee housing) at a ski resort in Vail, Colorado.
It was magical indeed.
And so is Pavel, as you can clearly see demostrated here in this nifty letter from his current trail blazes in the Guatemala.
His broken english is my favourite part. I can fully imagine him in great detail just by reading the way he talks.
And what he talks about eh! I can fully imagine the jungle, ruins and crazy sounds he describes (but in case you can't I added a link).
Enjoy!

"in this town xela I met guy from Mexico that has been
traveling Central Am. for 3 years and he told me one
adventure that is worth czeching out.We decided to go
and 14 days later we met in northen Guatemala state
Peten. We met in this litle town called El Remate on a
beautiful hot lake.We were supose to be four, two
chicks that I didn't know and him.I came and it was
raing hard every day and we weren't sure if it will be
posible to go becouse mulas can get stuck in the mud
and you are fucked.Second day he got bit by some litle
thing and was in the bed with high fevers having one
hell of a trip for free.I and this girl from Israel
decided to go to litle town Carmelita up north where
the road stops and starts pure jungle looking for some
info and somedody who is willing to take us.We found
guy from this vilage, the next day went back to town
for food for a week and right back.Slept in Jovaniho
litle house with no electrocity and dirt
floors....more pigs, chickens and mulas around than
people.Next moning loaded mula's backs with food and
started hiking north. We were two of us,the guide and
one helper that was taking care of those two
mulas.Straight from the start we stept in to
jungle, swamps upto our nees and milions of
mosquitos. After 3 hours of fight with the mud and
water we reached litle (house) where two guys live and
watching over a minor mayan site(ruins)-waited for the
hard rain to pass and kept on walking...after next 3
hours reached spot called Tintal-two mayan pyramids
covered with the jungle.Climed one for the sunset and
over looked miles and jungle and only jungle.Camped
there and in the morning I woke up early and still in
the dark climed it again and waited for the sun go
up.Spider-monkeys,tucans and all kinds of staff flying
in the trees.Sweating before the first step we packed
and went on again.Trying to pay close attention to
everything in order to see as much wild life as
posible walking with my nose up looking high into
trees trying to spot more monkeys and staff almost
steping on to a beautiful green and red snake.Don't
know what kind.We met two tarantulas and I'm poking
the big one with a stick in it's hairy red
ass.Mosquitos are the worst enemy. Are agresive and
everywhere. If you walking behind somebody you can see
hundreds of them folowing every his step and turn.if
you stop they jump all over you like litle wempires.I
don't want to stop for food, drinking while walking and
pissing as well.Constantly waving around me with a
leafy stick like I'm insane...after 7 hours don't
belive that I'm gonna survive this...after 8 hours I'm
really fucking exhausted. My friend, this chick from
israel,is already five hours riding one mula and being
insane with her leafy stick also. After 9 hours we are
finaly reaching El Mirador. The oldest and largest
mayan city ever found. The highest spot (60m) is
pyramid Tygre and the largest is templo La Danta. 10sq
miles of buildings covered with jungle. There is no
roads only chopper can sit down and for this reason
axcavations go really slow.Over 20 years of studing
this place archeologists finaly started to uncover
staff about 3 years ago.Workers can be there only for
months in a year becouse there is no other water just
rain and so in the dry season nothing is happening.3
guys are living there watching over this city.there
is hundreds of buildings uncovered.you can walk
through and only imagine by the formed land scape how
this city looked. They took as into tunels under some
structures that archeologist digged in order to find
out ways how it was build.Showed us axcavation in
progress that are stopt right now.In the night we are
drinking pinaple wine that one 66 year old Filipe is
making there. It was late night,we all siting in this
wooden smokeshag, drinking this staff when Arnoldo with
his wide eyes taking slowly mine friend from a chair
she was siting in and pointing his finger behind her
on a small balck snake with orange rings aroud his
body.It was Coral, one of the most dengerous bustards
around. He took machety and cut his head of and in the
morning chickens will eat it.In the morning litle
socer and back in the forest.4 hours to the next ruins
called Nakbe.Around us colorful world and I'm chewing
gum from a tree that they taking robber from(Rudi's
world)... our guide cuts open this funky looking thing
and takes out of it the best honey I have ever
had.Jungle is full of things behind
description.Specialy with my english. The next day
standing infront of the most dangerous snake in the
jungle-Barba Maria.Again saw him late and so started
to walk slowly backwards. You can't see them, this one
was perfectly mached with the color of the fallen
leaves.8 hours walk for the next site Florida. There I
met people that climb trees and colecting the
rubber, cooking it and selling to Japan.I'm thinking
going back and living with them for some time.the
pople that watching for those mayan sites are going
for big fights of dogs and rusters(male chicken-don't
know how to spell it) so I want to go too. Also there
is this monky-howler monkey that has this deep
chilling roar and sounds like the biggest beast is
somewhere near and wants to eat you.Sounds like
godzilla...super cool....the next day from Florida we
have only 3 hours through the swamps and back to that
litle village that is now not the end but begining of
the road for us...I'm back in El Remate and thinkig
what next...6 days of this hard trek....I'm tired...."
