If you look closely, you can see he's wearing different socks and shoes. It was the 1912 Olympics, and Jim, a Native American from Oklahoma, was representing the U.S. in track and field. His shoes were stolen on the morning of his events, and Jim ended up finding a pair in the garbage bin. One of the shoes was too big, so he had to wear an extra sock. Jim went on to win two gold medals wearing these shoes!
