After great deliberation and sadness. I have come to the conclusion that in my current state, city, and situation that I can not get around on my bicycle alone. Unfortunately my life is just paced faster than 15-20mph at the moment. I've considered my options, but if I want to be able to go to school, hold a job, and possibly even have a social life, I need to pick up the pace.

So, I have decided to get a Scooter. I considered a moped, because they are very close to bicycles and even have bicycle pedals for when you run out of gas, but the technology just isn't there and scooter are better built for a better price. Hydraulic brakes, injected oil, 2 passengers, security alarm, storage space, remote electronic starter, 10-20 mph faster, a 2 year warantee, with the same 100 mpg and 49cc engine. It just makes more sense.

Now, originally I wanted to go american or european made for several ethical reasons. I especially dug Stella scooters. They're retro looking, have tons of accessories, and you can even put a sidecar on them. And of course are american made. However my pocket book couldn't handle the cost. They run about 2000$ more than foreign scooters. However, there is no way I would ride a scooter that was made in some third world sweat shop. Although, I do admit that there is a great chance that the majority of american made scooters are probably assembled from foreign components.

So, my searching for a reasonably priced yet ethical scooter led me to a company called Daelim that manufactures scooters out of Taiwan. Admittedly, I don't know much about taiwan, or it's culture, but I do know that it is a democracy and has been for a decade, and they do have policed child labor laws. Children have to go to school from 6-15 and they have to be at least 15 to work and have completed school. I started working when I was 12 getting payed under the table, so that sounds pretty decent to me.

To me this does appear to be my best option. However, I will be consulting Dusti for her informed opinion, as she is currently residing in Taiwan.

Anyhow, this is the scooter. What do you think?
