I don't remember how I found the place. I'm not sure if I drove or walked, but I remember my first site of it. It was this old brick building that looked condemned. The place was falling apart, windows were boarded up, the roof looked rotten, and basically if it stood for another year in this condition it would be a miracle. But on an empty street, full of other dead buildings it almost fit right in. I could almost feel the emotions, of the people that I knew were inside: pain, anger, it was terrifying. But still I stood there, waiting outside of the club, because there was one more thing that I could hear, and that was his voice.
I eventually found my way to the front of the building. The door was large and uninviting, but maybe that was the large hulking figure, taking up almost the entire frame of the warehouse door. "What are you doing here little one?" he asked with an ominous laugh rolling through the spaces between his words. I could say nothing. I could barely stand. The scent from the building was strong enough that I could almost taste the alcohol, sweat, and something that smelled uncomfortably unfamiliar. I waited not knowing what to say, and then suddenly I hear the voice of the stranger that I had heard outside, "come."
I don't remember walking past the bouncer. I forgot if his eyes lingered on my body in that way that a man can look at you and make you feel dirty because of his stare. I just remember suddenly being inside. The smell was no longer noticeable, I had grown accustom to it with a speed that scared me. Now it was the music that had my attention. The techno deep lulling base, there was no hint of singing, no hint of light. This was the type of music that reaches into you and changes the way that your heart beats, it makes your head feel as if it were swelling, pulsing, pounding. The club was dark and the patrons appeared as wraiths exiting from the shadows to come into my range of site for but moments and then disappearing. I could see their faces, and the thoughts of anger returned. They did not want me there. I was an outsider and I could feel the tension of their stares. But I felt all of this with just my secondary senses. All my mind could concentrate on was the darkest corner in the back of the club. I could still feel him calling to me.
