Sorry to all of you in the upper mid-west, it was near 60 today and the mountains still have a nice frostin'.
Today I went to a banquet for all of the state legislators and other would be politicians. It was standard fare, full of crap.
The state here is near the bottom when measured on literacy, low per capita income and drop out rates. Also the teachers here are paid one of the lowest salaries in the nation. So, why then are the politicians so proud. We have no eduacational system of any magnitude and the leaders are talking about a tax cut.
Here in Santa Fe, we pay a gross receipts tax, nearly on everything, and the rate went to 7.3125% from 6.6875% and the money is wasted on pet projects like diverting water 200 miles away, and the water may not exist when a pipeline is built.
Anyway, there is little marginal value in me being involved. I am, though altruistic, and over time I hope I can make my littile impression on our fine state. I have not given up hope.
