So, my weekend ended with a thud. There was a knock at the door about 4pm. The woman at the door asked for me and then hands me a stack of papers - I've been served with papers for a lawsuit for the foreclosure of my old house. It isn't a huge shock, since my ex gave up paying the mortgage on the house back in December. Needless to say, I called my ex immediately and let her know that she is going to be paying any and all of my legal fees. I've got a call into the lawyer I used for my divorce. While I care fuck all about losing the house since I can't afford to buy my ex out of it anyway, I want this to go in front of the court to see if:
a) I can be removed from the liability on this, based on our divorce documents, and have the negative marks stricken from my credit;
b) get the court to force my ex to pay my legal fees;
c) see if I can get them to award me some sort of compensation from my ex for the financial harm she has caused me.

I realize b and c are most likely going to be a completely separate case. State law requires my ex to pay any legal fees related to enforcing the settlement agreement since it is considered a binding contract, which covers b. I expect I'm dreaming when it comes to c, because I fully expect that my ex is going to be declaring bankruptcy soon. Would be nice if I could just get her to agree to give up her alimony instead of paying me back. I'd gladly pay my lawyer a years worth of my alimony payments if he can get me out of 6 more years of giving it to her.
