Thanks to everyone who commented about my stabbing/hugging of students. 
I have to accept late papers cuz I'm the proletariat TA. So I have to go by the prof's rules. However, today was the last day to turn in late papers. FOUR of our students didn't turn one in - which means they are now failing and it is too late to drop the course. Lovely. I'm SOOOO looking forward to dealing with that next.
Some of my students were passing notes in class today and the prof noticed and called them out on it after class.
I must make my students sound like evil little munchkins... but most of them aren't. Most of them are really engaged, love the class, and say really wonderful things and write really wonderful papers. The paper they just turned in requires them to be a martian. It's really fun to read papers written by martians... for the most part - the good martian writers anyway.
