I saw Road To Perdition. A good movie marred by a really awful narrative voice-over at the end. Anyhow, it was based on a good graphic novel, which was based on a classic Japanese comic series.

Lone Wolf and Cub, aka "the babycart assassin".

I remember reading this when I was a kid, when manga were still hard to find and only a couple of publishers were offering translations (the Viz translations of Nausicaa are classic examples of work done well). When Lone Wolf and Cub was first published in english, the only other Japanese comic books being translated on a regular basis in the late 80's were Area 88 and Akira. And everyone knows Akira, thanks to the anime a few years later. But the Baby Cart Assassin was a Japanese movie too: only it was a filmed in the 60's. It even had a few sequels.

Not as good as Kurosawa films, but enough like The Seven Samurai to make good rentals if you can find them. Who can turn down samurai films?

Speaking of which, Throne of Blood was an early ommission in my fav films but it's back now. If I feel like it, I might add Howard's End back in there, too...

takora:
atttn: Mr. Pathogen, and members of the world press:

A fuckwitted client's lack of organization has left Mr. Takora only 24 hours to complete a job that had been allotted a full week's work time. Due to this unforseen schedule change, Mr. Takora's still quite death defying stunt will be postponed until the coming weekend. Mr. Takora's organization thanks you for your understanding and your patience, and would like to remind you that there are still plenty of THE SALTINES OF DEATH 2002 t-shirts available for sale.
