Tease him, recall something from the conversation. Or if he teases you - you've got him.
If next time he comes in and he doesn't say hello, you should say hello. He may be shy, intimidated, or perhaps have thought too much about the conversation after he left. He may covertly welcome you saying hello. But don't just say hello - ask him a question that does not require YES or NO.
The important thing isn't getting a date out of the sitation but you doing something positive that will make him remember you or vice versa.

Tonight's a good night. It's pooring rain outside and I'm listening to Lush. I'm feeling so much better, just a stuffy nose. I watch Eternal Sunshine... again today and everytime I do, I realize why I love that movie. Other than that, my life is pretty quiet. Safe. Boring.

I'm getting over a cold/flu and feeling icky. I had a fever and chills the last 2 days. I'm feeling incredibly lonely these last 2 months... I'm sure it'll go away, it usually does. Besides, I know it's not the place that makes you feel that way. Anyways, I love the midwest too much to leave.
