It all has to do with wanting to surround yourself with people you respect and enjoy having around. That's really the only goal. That is the elusive happiness. When you find people who can spark thoughts and intrigue, you are happiest when they are around. It has nothing to do with the structure of these relationshps, just that you can enjoy everyones company when you can.
....but when people start expecting more of you than just your company, that's when things start to go wrong.
