Phewwhat a weekend! Just got back from Reading Festival, and for the most part, it didnt suck!
OK, so Mean Fiddler over sold it totally, the NME stole all the hot new bands and rammed their tent so much that it was 20 deep OUTSIDE, the beer/alcohol selection was small and overpriced. But we stuck with it, and apart from a few grrr moments on Friday (not being able to see The Subways cos of that damn tent) and Saturday (not being able to see Capdown, Dwarves or Rise Against cos of THAT damn tent), I had a fantastic time
I saw some great bands, got drunk lots, and hung out with my two best fave people ever Tony and Carmel over the three days and we didnt kill each other!
me an Carmel:
me an Tony:
Friday we were joined by CrackHeidi and G1, discovered Carmel couldnt buy BITTER in the arena, decided the NME tent sucked, and had the pleasure of being BLOWN AWAY by the motherfucking PIXIES, who were amazing
Saturday, we were joined by CreamyGoodness for the bulk of the day, and also bumped into Sky during The Explosions set. I think this may have been the busiest day, and after having no joy getting into the FUCKING NME and LOCK UP TENTS for the rest of the day, I kinda had a low moment in the late afternoon, cos it sucked missing the punk bands I really wanted to see. But I saw Dinosaur Jnr instead (who rocked), and my day was rescued by The Raveonettes, who played the blinder of all sets, and were without doubt the band of the day
we also got over the alcohol problem by smuggling in a half bottle of vodka and 2 cans of Tetley bitter.
A special mention must go to " most excitable young bands of the day" No Comply and Be Your Own Pet, who both ruled...
Be Your Own Pet:
After Saturday, we were well up for Sunday, and proceeded to start getting pissed in Reading Town Centre. We got brave and smuggled in 6 cans of Tetley, 4 cans of Grolsh and a bottle and a half of vodka. All Ill say is Carmel couldnt stop talking bollocks for the rest of the day, and I lost the plot completely during NoFX, who played a classic set. We were also dead chuffed to be blown away by Alkaline Trio and Iggy and the Stooges, who were both fantastic.
Bands That Rocked:
Wedding Present, Dropkick Murphys, PIXIES, No Comply (how can a band be THAT excitable that early in the morning?), The Explosion, Dinosaur Jnr, Be Your Own Pet (insane, plus songs about zombies), RAVEONETTES, Alkaline Trio (see, you CAN play a decent set, which included Emma and Stupid Kid), NoFX, Iggy
Bands That Were Great, but I Couldnt See, or Were Just Ok:
DFA 1979 (couldnt see), Subways (couldnt see), Capdown (couldnt see), Rise Against (couldnt see, ARGH!), QOTSA
My view of QOTSA:
Bands That Sucked:
Killers (not enough songs, dull), The Licks (sorry, a bikini does not make you rocknroll), Kings Of Leon (get on with it), Foo Fighters (oh Dave, you are so NICE!), Turbonegro (SHUT THE FUCK UP!), Marilyn Manson (not that bothered on Sunday, were you Brian?), and IRON MAIDEN
actually, thats harsh they were great for about 30 mins, but 2 hours of non-stop widdly widdly guitar solos got a bit old pretty quick. But yes, they did indeed rock...
Monday now seems like a bit of an anti-climax!
Hope everyone else had fun...
