well, manchester nearly killed me. i knew it would. too much drinking, too many late nights, too much running backwards and forwards between manchester and warrington... 
it was great to see Sian and Lisa again though - although in Lisas case it was a bit of a flying visit, but i'm seeing her for a whole weekend end of the month, so no biggie.
Friday and Sunday consisted of drinking, drinking and more drinking. in fact i realised it was the first time i'd been in a pub after the new licencing laws came in, so rather than ending at 11PM, we were still drinking at 2AM on friday night.
this is not good for munch!
the main reason for going up though was for saturday night, and the party in Warrington which had been organised by the drummer from my old band (Kick Asteroid 1991 - 1993). it was kind of a reunion because the old singer/bass player from the band Andy was also coming along - and i hadn't seen him since 1996 when he disappeared in a blizzard of cocaine.
all three of us have recently been emailing each other (since we started the "demo tapes to MP3" project), so me and andy had got back in contact again, so it was excellent to actually get to see him in person again.
things weren't great back in 1996 - we kinda stopped hanging out together, and i had no idea why, although i had stopped seeing a bunch of people in the same group of friends at the time due to the ridiculous amount of drugs everyone was taking. plus there was a hell of a lot of backbiting going on at the time too. so it seems in dropping all these people so i could get away from the madness, he was one of the casualties.
Andy eventually escaped from London, the drugs and his marriage when the intake got too much around 2000, and moved back home to Wales, where he lives now with his girlfriend.
seeing him again was a bit of a shock, but we got over that pretty quickly. we've both got pretty porky in the last few years, and he was back to his old self. he was exactly how he used to be when i first met him back in 1991, and i'd actually forgotten what he used to be like.
the banter came back very quickly, and he had me in fits of laughter like the old days.
seems we both can't really work out why we didn't stay in touch. but who cares. when i found out that our drummer had been in contact with Andy a few years ago, i knew it was only gonna be a matter of time for us to get back in contact again.
so all the drinking and late nights and running around was worth it. we'll be hanging out again very soon, and i'm looking to go and stay with them in Wales for a weekend when the summer comes.
btw - Warrington is a shithole. apologies to the people from Warrington...but....i'm never going there again!

Reading that makes me wish I had a modicum of musical talent so that in 10 years I could track down estranged band mates. Instead I'll find myself looking up the "bloke I did kareoke with" last week. Which lacks the same rock n roll mermoirs feel!
