Been off work sick today, so being the complete pisstaker i am, i went off to the cinema to see HOSTEL...
i love my gory slasher flicks, but always get disappointed with how lightweight these films have been in the past. everyone says "oooh, the most unpleasent film ever made EVER" and then its kind of a let down when you finally go see it.
they are never as nasty as things like "Last House On The Left", or the original "Dawn Of the Dead", or the original "Texas Chainsaw", or even the original "Hills Have Eyes".
I must add though, i did think the remakes of the last three were bloody good (esp the new "Hills Have Eyes") - but maybe because they had a good idea to go on in the first place?
so, HOSTEL and Eli Roth - well, i absolutely hated "Cabin Fever" - i thought it sucked. stupid crapola story, nowhere near as sick an twisted as it was meant to be, and he didn't really seem to have a clue where he was going with the story, especially when it falls of the rails in the last third into "silly territory".
without ruining it, HOSTEL, although far more enjoyable (can you say that about a sick slasher flick?), really didn't have much more going for it than "Cabin Fever". although its sick, i reckon Roth pulls back and wimps out from really going the whole hog, but again kinda loses the plot about halfway through.
i'm sorry Eli - until you make a film as tense and unpleasent and disturbing as "The Descent" or "Wolf Creek", you don't get my vote.
He could learn a thing or two from Neil Marshall or Greg McLean...or Alexandre Aja for that matter.

Went and saw Against Me! on tuesday with Jackie and yeoman. had much fun. the band totally rocked, plus i had two insane dancing partners to rock out with!
Going to see The Filaments on Sunday with the above plus Peter_Minger - so bring on more punk rock stupidity i say!
I must say its been cool meeting these two and sorting out going to gigs with them - i can't believe its taken me three years on this site to find two likeminded people in the London Area(ish) that are regular gig goers like me...
