well, i wasn't gonna update so quickly, but after last night, i just gotta!
this has been one hell of a "weekend of gigs" - all of which were amazing and eventful in different ways.
FRIDAY - No Comply @ The Underworld. I love No Comply, and I've managed to miss their last few London Gigs cos - well, frankly they seemed to be playing the same set over and over again.
anyway, they didn't on Friday, they chucked in some new songs too, and were still the beserk totally out-of-control horn-fuelled punky-metally thing they usually are. bloody fantastic!
this gig also featured the "least punk rock moment EVER", when Barney from Sonic Boom Six stopped a song half way through to let off all the mini-mosher stage invaders cos he couldn't see his bass. everyone looked so sheepish.
"100 Lines everyone: I will not invade the stage at a punk rock gig and upset the bassplayer!"
what a cop out!
SUNDAY - this was the Wasted @ Xmas gig at the Astoria, and you can read about that here!. This was an awesome day as i spent most of it meeting up with old friends, and seeing some great old school punk bands - 999, UK Subs, The Dickies and The Angelic Upstarts.
MONDAY - and just when you thought it couldn't get any better, it did. The Dead Pets and The Horrorpops @ the Mean Fiddler!
I was joined by AlwaysBeingBlue and Hologramme, and along with Carmel and Dave we had a bloody good night. We had a few beers in The Ship, then moved onto the gig pretty early. I also managed to bump into Jackie and Dotty in between bands, and it was certainly great to meet up with them briefly.
The Dead Pets were great as always, and were loud, shouty, snotty, entertaining, and probably quite pissed. The great thing is, I've seen them a few times this year and the band are beginning to recognise me and carmel, so we got to have a brief chat with a couple of the guys over the course of the eve.
Left Alone were on second, and they were total shite. I think they may have played their copy of "And Out Come The Wolves" a bit too much.
The Horrorpops totally blew me away though. They've always been great fun live and thoroughly entertaining, but tonight, they absolutely fucking rocked. they pulled out all the stops, played a blinding set, and didn't put a foot wrong all night.
Stand-up slap bass, go-go dancers, surfin' rockabilly guitars, punk rock shouty choruses. whats not to like?
my last gig of the year, and contender of one of my top five gigs of the year. who'd have thunk it?
