Another three day mega weekend at the studio. It's kinda funny how things get accomplished at weird non consistent levels. As I look back over the time we've spent in the studio, having a blast, trying to save rock and roll, A few moments come to mind that make smile.
1) While tracking one of our songs, in the last 4 beats of the song, after pulling off one of the sickest drum fills I have ever bared witness to, punt was hitting his drums so
hard that he flew off the drum throne, knocked over a beautiful royer ribbon mic, and proceeded to fall all the way into the wall. Don't ask me how it happened, the gods were smiling upon us. Needless to say, we kept the take, and you can now listen to us laugh at eric as he falls from the far end of the room, at the end of "Building an Image"
2) One late night, while tracking vocals, my singer decided to strip down naked and track in the nude.
We got a good picture of him singing into the mic while holding his junk. Needless to say, we kept the takes.
Back to this weekend:
We recorded a ton of stuff and at the end of the weekend didn't have much to really show for it until punt started laying some extra percussion down over the albums title track "The Night All Systems Fail". It started to sound kinda iffy while we were tracking it, but as we kept laying tracks down, it started to sound full of life and took a shape. We sat at the mixing board for about a half hour, all over zealous and hashed out a super rough mix of just the instruments.
Now I love you guys, and I want to share this with you, because I'm so proud of what we are accomplishing. I'm asking that if you download this song, please don't give it to anyone. It's for our community's enjoyment, only.
I'm missing my SGSF buddies. It's been too long since i've enjoyed their presence. This will have to change soon.
p.s. it's ok to criticize.
