Which class should I take autumn quarter?
History of Modern Japan
This course traces the history of modern Japan from the opening of the country in the mid-19th century to World War II. Major themes are industrialization, the influence of the West, nationalism, imperialism, social change and the role of women, and the coming of the Pacific War.
Photo Theory and Criticism
Art traditions of photography from its origins in the nineteenth century to the present. Emphasis on photographic traditions and photographers of the twentieth century, and investigations of and research into local collections.
To take into consideration:
I do some photo but I'm not great and not invested in it. Although I really do like photography in general, I'll probably never pursue it more than a leisure/hobby thing.
I'm taking Japanese at the moment, and it's a country I've always been interested in much more than others. However, the history class grade is only based off a midterm (25%), a paper (25%), and a final(50%)--aka, kind of risky.

i say the history class. it better fits your studies and im a history nerd.

Make your choice based on what you have more interest in learning. Grades are good but you'll do better in a class you find fun and interesting. From what you've said here that sounds like the Japan history class.
